Egypt – Cairo

Throughout thousands of years, Egypt has been considered home to civilisation. This attribute comes predominantly from the Pharaohs who were the founders of the very first state in the world. Egypt is home to the longest river in the world, the Nile, giving it life from the north all the way to the south. The cultural heritage of Egypt does not just end with the Pharaohs, numerous civilisations have lived in Egypt such as the Greeks, the Romans, the Fatimids, the Mamluks and the Ottomans. The capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt is the city of Cairo. It is known for its antiquities and everlasting history and was given the most beautiful city award in 1940. Cairo is nicknamed as “ the Paris of the Nile” for its unique French styled architecture of downtown Cairo. Not only would you spot ancient Egyptian architecture in Cairo, you can see Italian, Islamic, Coptic and Greek architecture all over the City.

Oasis International School

The Oasis International School was founded in 1994 with a goal of conjugating excellence and fulfillment throughout a French education deeply rooted in the Egyptian culture, all in supporting an international vision. To achieve the aforementioned goals The Oasis international school taught the Egyptian national programme for 12 years. In 2004 the Oasis international School became the first school in the world to offer the three IB programmes in French : The Primary years Programme (PYP), The Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) making the school the very first school to teach all 4 IB programs in French since October 2015 with the authorization of the professional orientation program (POP).

 

The official language of instruction is French. Arabic which is the mother language of most students and English which is taught as a second language. However the English programme offered in our establishment is well known for it’s quality. In the Diploma programme, there is also the possiblity to choose to learn Spanish.

History of OISMUN

The Oasis International School aims to fulfill its goals of international mindedness through the organization of the Model United Nations conference, OISMUN. The school started taking part in MUN conferences from 2006. The Diploma office took considerable measures to implicate MUN as a core extracurricular activity at the school. Consequently, in March 2008, the Oasis International School organised its first Model United Nations conference. The first OISMUN conference was a simulation of four committees with both the Disarmament Commission and the Security Council offered in both French and English thus officially making OISMUN the first bilingual conference in Egypt.

 

The 3rd OISMUN (February 2010) saw the inauguration of the International Court of Justice and the introduction of the Robert Stern guide as its reference document.

In 2012, the School organized its 4th conference bringing drastic reforms to the conference’s structure. Under the supervision of the school the students of the class of 2012 took in charge the organization of OISMUN 4. The creation of the organizing committee was a key measure the school wanted for the conference in order to teach students the virtues of working as a whole unit in order to fulfil a large scale conference. In addition, the Secretariat of the conference presided over the first plenary session of the General Assembly (GA).

In 2013, OISMUN 5 saw the inauguration of the General Assembly as an OISMUN organ.  The topic debated in the General Assembly was the World Oil crisis of 2015. 

The team of 6th annual OISMUN conference started an initiative to turn OISMUN into a green conference by using recycled materials to create the stationery of OISMUN as well as implementing more electronic proceedings for the committees. On the 10th of November 2013, the closing ceremony was held at the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Finally in OISMUN 7, the Crisis Committee was introduced to OISMUN, creating thrilling, elaborate, and dynamic crisis simulations with a goal of enhancing delegate’s critical thinking skills, and to entice a reflection on the consequences and effectiveness of solutions to problems. The committee was a great success and integrated numerous members of the team.
